Charlie Kirk shot dead in Utah: FBI releases photos of person of interest after suspected shooter's rifle found in nearby woods — follow live updates

The grainy clips, shared across social media under the hashtag #KirkAssassinationVideo, have already garnered millions of views and ignited a firestorm of grief, outrage, and speculation.

🔥 The Shot Heard Around the Nation

In the first video, shaky phone footage captures the chaotic moment inside the auditorium. Kirk is seen standing at the podium, gesturing passionately to the crowd. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes — the sound of a single rifle shot.

Gasps and screams ripple through the audience as Kirk collapses, clutching his neck. The camera jolts violently as the filmer dives for cover. People can be heard yelling “Sniper!” and “Get down!” while chairs crash and students scramble for safety.

What makes the footage even more chilling is the brief glimpse of the shooter — a man in dark clothing standing brazenly in the back rows, holding what appears to be a long-barrel firearm. Eyewitnesses had earlier claimed the bullet came from a rooftop; this new angle suggests the shooter may have infiltrated the event itself.

FBI has released a photo of a person of interest following Wednesday’s assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was killed by a single gunshot wound to the neck after being struck while seated under a tent at Utah Valley University.

One man angered police after he was caught stealing certain items right after the shooting, though his actions pale in comparison to the person who pulled the trigger. While a suspect was taken into custody, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a photo of a male wanted in connection with the killing.

The Salt Lake City office in Utah shared photos of the man in question via their Twitter/X account, asking for assistance identifying him.

“We are asking for the public’s help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” the caption reads.

You can see it right below:

The shooter is said to have worn dark clothing while taking the shot from a rooftop about 130 meters away, running into the nearby woods right after.

He is said to be college-aged, which has helped law enforcement agencies narrow their search down.

Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist and ally of President Donald Trump, was shot dead at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Video of the incident circulating on social media showed Kirk speaking to a large outdoor crowd as he sat under a tent.

Kirk briefly clutched his neck before collapsing to the side as blood rushed from his body. He was 31 years old.

Kirk was on a speaking tour, and the stop in Utah was the first of at least 15 scheduled events at universities around the country as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”

Before the shooting, he was seated at his “Prove Me Wrong” debating table and speaking with a man. Videos show that Kirk was going back and forth with a student about mass shootings and transgender people.

“Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” Charlie Kirk was asked.

“Too many,” Kirk responded as the crowd responded with thunderous applause.

“Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?” Kirk replied, “Counting or not counting gang violence?”

Less than a second later, he was shot.

We now have footage that shows the heartbreaking reaction of the student who could be seen freaking out after the bullet struck Charlie Kirk.

People gather for a vigil in honor of Charlie Kirk following his death on Wednesday, Sep. 10, 2025, at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Law enforcement officials delivered an update on the manhunt underway for the shooter who killed conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

The FBI revealed that a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” was found in a wooded area where the gunman fled after shooting Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday.

Investigators have also collected a “footwear impression, a palm print and forearm imprints for analysis,” FBI special agent Robert Bohls said at a press conference.

Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, who was also at the presser, said the gunman “blended in well with the college” and “appears to be of college age.”

Bohls noted, “We’re not sure how far he has gone yet.”

In the wake of the Charlie Kirk shooting, two people were arrested and questioned. They would soon be released.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason announced this Thursday that the authorities had a “good video” of the shooter and were “working through some technologies and some ways to identify this individual.”

Mason indicated they would contact the media and the public for help if needed.

“If we are unsuccessful, we will reach out to you as the media and we will push that publicly to help us identify them,” he added. “But we are confident in our abilities right now.”

The weapon used to kill Charlie Kirk was retrieved from a wooded area near the scene and has been described as a high-powered bolt-action rifle. The FBI is in the process of analysing the firearm.

A second video, filmed outside minutes later, shows SWAT officers swarming a figure pinned to the ground near a parking lot. The man, allegedly the gunman, thrashes as officers shout commands and wrestle the weapon from his hands.

Crowds gather around the police line, chanting “Justice for Kirk!” while some scream in fury, demanding answers. The video ends with the suspect being dragged into a waiting police van, his face obscured but his body tense and rigid.

Authorities have not officially released the man’s name, but insiders claim the suspect is in FBI custody. The Justice Department has declined to comment, fueling only more rumors online.
