The Buffalo Bills officially introduced a unique pregame tradition by playing the Canadian national anthem before tonight’s game. The highly anticipated matchup against the Detroit Lions serves as the regular-season opener at the brand-new Highmark Stadium.

Consequently, the team decided to celebrate both the American and Canadian anthems to honor their broad, cross-border fanbase. Famous Toronto-based rock band Barenaked Ladies performed a rendition of “O Canada” to kick off the festivities.

Fans Are Pissed the Bills Played the Canadian Anthem at Highmark

A pregame clip from the new Highmark Stadium was posted by the franchise on Thursday night, and the replies did not stay polite for long. In the video, Barenaked Ladies performed the Canadian Anthem before Buffalo’s home opener against the Detroit Lions.

Almost immediately, a wave of comments argued that an NFL team in New York had no business opening the night with O Canada.

“You guys play in the United States, don’t need to sing the Canadian national anthem,” one fan said.

“We start with o f—king Canada? What other NFL team does this? What the f—k,” a second fan wrote.

“As much as I appreciate y’all playing our anthem. That was one of the worst renditions I have ever heard. Sounded like 4 teenage boys going through puberty 😂,” a third fan said of the Canadian anthem.

“This isn’t Canada!! Why the hell are we singing another country’s song??” one final fan commented.

One fan even went so far as to claim he was “officially done with the Bills.”

Buffalo is Off To a Hot Start

The Buffalo Bills are dominating the Detroit Lions early during their high-profile Thursday Night Football matchup. Playing in their brand-new stadium, the explosive offense immediately established a comfortable 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Consequently, superstar quarterback Josh Allen has completely dismantled the opposing defense with his elite dual-threat playmaking ability. He already accounted for 135 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a signature one-yard rushing score prior to this writing.

They are in a good position to start the year 2-0.
