The delay hit at the worst possible time. A fan ran onto the grass at Yankee Stadium at 9:11 p.m. carrying a Palestinian flag and wearing a “No Kings” jersey. The New York Yankees were hosting the Mets on the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11.
The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty posted the scene as it unfolded.
“Security tackles a fan who ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium at 9:11 p.m. with a Palestinian flag.”
“Fans threw beer cans at him once security got him beyond the outfield wall.”
New York Yankees Game Stops In The Seventh
The man came out of the left-field seats and sprinted toward center. Security missed him for a few seconds, then brought him down on the outfield grass. Officials walked him past the center-field wall. Fans above the Mets bullpen threw cans and drinks. The crowd booed, then broke into “USA” chants.
The Athletic reported the stoppage came in the top of the seventh. The Mets had the bases loaded. Francisco Lindor stood in with two outs and a 3-2 count. The New York Yankees led 5-2. Brent Headrick threw a few warm-up pitches after the delay. Lindor then lined out to end the inning.
TMZ later identified the man as 38-year-old Kelly Marcucci. Police charged him with trespass and a local ordinance violation. The New York Yankees declined to comment.

The timing was the point. Friday was the 25th anniversary of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. Derek Jeter and other members of the 2001 club were at the ballpark. A husband and wife who each lost a father on Sept. 11 threw out the first pitches. Flags around the frieze sat at half-mast.
The New York Yankees had spent the afternoon in Monument Park. Then a stranger ran the outfield at 9:11 p.m. with another country’s flag.
Stadium security already faces other fan-safety fights. A spectator sued the club for $10 million after a flying bat cleared the netting in June. Friday’s scene was different. It was a political stunt on a memorial date, not a foul ball.
Play resumed and Lindor made the out. The Subway Series went on as the man left in cuffs, and the “USA” chants followed him out of center field.
