GREEN BAY, Wis. — Jordan Love has already established himself as the centerpiece of the Packers’ offense, but there is one hypothetical move that would instantly send Green Bay fans into a frenzy. If circumstances ever created an opportunity for Davante Adams to return to the franchise where he became one of football’s most dominant receivers, the possibility of seeing No. 17 wearing green and gold again would be almost impossible to ignore.
There is no verified report that the Packers and Rams are currently discussing an Adams trade, and Adams remains an active member of Los Angeles’ roster entering the 2026 season. In fact, he and Matthew Stafford have spent the summer building on the chemistry they developed last year, so this should be viewed as a fascinating Packers “what if?” rather than an imminent transaction.

Green Bay Is Where Adams Became a Superstar
Adams’ connection to the Packers goes far beyond nostalgia. Green Bay selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and over eight seasons with the franchise he developed from a young receiver facing early criticism into one of the most feared route runners in football.
His final seasons in Green Bay were extraordinary. Adams recorded 115 catches for 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2020, then followed that with a career-high 123 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021. Those performances cemented his place among the greatest receivers of the Packers’ modern era.
Then everything changed.
Green Bay traded Adams to Las Vegas in 2022, separating him from Aaron Rodgers and ending one of the NFL’s most productive quarterback-receiver partnerships. Adams later played for the Jets before joining the Rams, but even after years away, seeing No. 17 associated with Green Bay still carries a completely different meaning for Packers fans.
Now Imagine Adams With Jordan Love
This is where the hypothetical becomes especially interesting.
A return wouldn’t be about recreating the past with Rodgers. It would be about giving Jordan Love one of the most accomplished receivers of his generation and seeing whether Adams could write an entirely different chapter with Green Bay’s current quarterback.
Adams wouldn’t necessarily need to dominate targets the way he did during his prime. At this stage of his career, Green Bay could use his route running, red-zone ability and experience as part of a broader receiving rotation while allowing Love to take advantage of the attention Adams still commands.
And there is evidence that Adams remains dangerous where it matters most.
Despite playing only 14 regular-season games for Los Angeles in 2025, Adams caught 14 touchdown passes — a career high that led the NFL. He finished with 60 receptions for 789 yards before returning in the postseason and adding 185 receiving yards across the Rams’ playoff run.
Those aren’t the numbers of a receiver surviving solely on reputation.
The Red-Zone Possibilities Would Be Fascinating
Adams has spent years mastering the details that make receivers difficult to defend near the goal line. His releases, footwork and understanding of leverage have allowed him to create separation even when defenders know exactly where the football might be going.
Put that experience beside Love, and Matt LaFleur would suddenly have another option for critical third downs and red-zone situations. The Packers wouldn’t have to ask Adams to consistently outrun defensive backs downfield; they could ask him to win the situations where technique and timing matter most.
For Love, having that kind of veteran presence could provide another benefit as well. Adams has seen virtually every coverage an NFL secondary can throw at an elite receiver, and adding that experience to a relatively young offensive core could have value beyond his individual statistics.
The image alone would get Packers fans talking:
Jordan Love under center. Davante Adams lined up outside. No. 17 back at Lambeau Field.
It would look familiar — but the quarterback throwing him the football would represent an entirely new era.
But Getting Him Back Wouldn’t Be Simple
Unlike the Tyreek Hill scenario in the Chiefs version, Green Bay cannot simply sign Adams today. He remains under contract with Los Angeles, and the Rams are actively preparing for the 2026 season with Adams as an important part of Stafford’s receiving corps.
That means something significant would have to change before a reunion could become realistic. Los Angeles would have to become willing to move him, Green Bay would have to determine what it was prepared to surrender, and Adams himself would have to fit into the Packers’ financial and long-term plans.
His age would also matter. Adams is no longer the young receiver Green Bay drafted more than a decade ago, so the Packers would have to evaluate what he can provide now, rather than paying simply for what he once accomplished at Lambeau Field.
But his 14 touchdowns last season make that conversation considerably more interesting.
One Reunion Would Electrify Lambeau Field
There is currently no evidence that Adams is preparing to leave Los Angeles. Just one day ago, the Rams were publicly discussing the chemistry he and Stafford have developed heading into the new season, with Adams saying of their potential together, “The sky’s the limit.”
Still, NFL circumstances can change quickly.
If Los Angeles ever became willing to listen and Green Bay decided it needed one more proven veteran weapon for a championship run, there might not be another available name capable of creating the same reaction throughout Wisconsin.
This wouldn’t be Rodgers and Adams turning back the clock.
It would be something entirely new:
Davante Adams coming home to Lambeau Field — this time to catch passes from Jordan Love.
For Packers Nation, even imagining it creates one enormous question:
If the opportunity ever appeared, how much would you give up to bring No. 17 back to Green Bay for one more run? 💚💛👀
