Cancel whatever you had planned for Sunday afternoon, because one of the NFL’s oldest NFC North rivalries is about to take center stage in Chicago.
The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will collide on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at historic Soldier Field, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT (1:00 p.m. ET). The Week 2 showdown will be televised on FOX, and after what both teams produced on opening weekend, this suddenly feels like much more than an ordinary early-season divisional game.
Both teams enter the matchup at 1–0. Both scored at least 39 points in their season openers. And both have already given their fan bases reasons to believe that something special could be developing in 2026.

But Chicago’s rushing attack may have been even more frightening.
The Bears became just the third team in NFL history to score six rushing touchdowns in a season opener, while D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai each surpassed 100 rushing yards.
Now that offense gets to come home.
Soldier Field will host its first Bears regular-season game of 2026 with expectations suddenly soaring. The question is whether Chicago can reproduce that offensive firepower against a Minnesota team arriving with enormous momentum of its own.
Minnesota Arrives After a Stunning Comeback
The Vikings’ opening victory was dramatic for entirely different reasons.
Minnesota trailed Green Bay 22–10 with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter before completely turning the game upside down.
The Vikings eventually stormed back to win 39–22, finishing the contest with 29 unanswered points. Minnesota’s fourth-quarter surge alone saw the Vikings outscore Green Bay 22–0.
That kind of comeback says plenty about a team’s ability to survive adversity.
Instead of collapsing when the Packers appeared to have control, Minnesota kept fighting, created turnovers, capitalized on short fields and transformed a double-digit deficit into a convincing victory.
Now the Vikings must take that confidence on the road.
And Soldier Field has recently been surprisingly friendly territory for Minnesota.
According to the Vikings, Minnesota has won six consecutive games at Soldier Field dating back to 2020, the franchise’s longest road winning streak against Chicago.
That statistic alone gives Sunday’s showdown another fascinating layer.
A Rivalry With Decades of History
This isn’t simply a meeting between two unbeaten teams.
It is another chapter in a rivalry that has stretched across generations.
Sunday will mark the 131st meeting between Chicago and Minnesota. The Vikings currently hold a 69–59–2 advantage in the all-time series, including postseason play, although Chicago won the teams’ most recent meeting and snapped Minnesota’s three-game winning streak in the rivalry.
Even more remarkably, the two teams combined for 98 points in Week 1, the highest combined opening-week scoring total in NFL history by two teams scheduled to face one another in Week 2.
So when the ball is kicked off in Chicago, fans will be watching two teams that have already demonstrated serious scoring potential.
That creates a tantalizing question:

Caleb Williams Takes Center Stage
For Chicago, much of the spotlight will naturally fall on Williams.
The Bears quarterback showed in Week 1 why his development under head coach Ben Johnson is one of the most intriguing storylines surrounding Chicago.
