STARKVILLE, Miss. — The waiting is officially over.

One of the SEC’s most fascinating Week 5 matchups now has its finalized national television assignment, as the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Starkville to face the undefeated No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday, October 3, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. CT on ABC.

The matchup had previously been assigned to the SEC’s “Early” television window without a final network and exact kickoff time. Now those details are locked in, giving college football fans across the country the opportunity to watch two undefeated SEC programs collide at Davis Wade Stadium.

What's the predicted score for Alabama vs Mississippi State on October 3rd, 2026?

And despite the early kickoff, the stakes could hardly feel bigger.

Alabama enters Starkville at 4–0 overall and 2–0 in SEC play, continuing to build momentum under head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The Crimson Tide are coming off a commanding 49–18 victory over South Carolina, another performance that reinforced Alabama’s position as one of the conference’s major contenders.

But Saturday’s trip to Starkville presents a very different challenge.

Mississippi State is also 4–0 overall and 2–0 in SEC play, meaning this is not simply another opportunity for the Bulldogs to challenge one of college football’s traditional powers.

It is an opportunity to make an enormous statement.

The Bulldogs have already demonstrated their ability to survive difficult games this season. They enter the Alabama matchup as one of only a handful of teams nationally with multiple victories against Power Four opponents that currently own winning records.

Now comes the biggest test yet.

Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor has emerged as one of the most dangerous young players in the SEC.

Entering Week 5, Taylor is tied for the national lead with 14 touchdown passes and leads the country in points responsible for per game. He has also accumulated 1,377 yards of total offense, the highest total among SEC quarterbacks entering the matchup.

That makes Saturday’s battle particularly intriguing.

Alabama traditionally prides itself on defensive discipline, speed and the ability to force opposing quarterbacks into uncomfortable situations.

Taylor will attempt to break that formula.

If Mississippi State can establish offensive rhythm early and force Alabama into a high-scoring road battle, Davis Wade Stadium could become one of the loudest places in college football.

But history overwhelmingly favors the Crimson Tide.

Alabama has won 16 consecutive meetings against Mississippi State and owns a remarkable 22–4 record in Starkville. The Bulldogs have not defeated Alabama since 2007.

That history will hang over Saturday’s game.

For Alabama, the objective is simple: maintain control of the series, remain unbeaten and continue building toward the heart of its SEC schedule.

For Mississippi State, the opportunity is enormous.

Ending a 16-game losing streak against Alabama while both teams are nationally ranked and undefeated would immediately become one of the defining victories of the Bulldogs’ season.

And they will have the home crowd
