BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bills Mafia may want to keep a close eye on the schedule before heading to Highmark Stadium next Sunday.
The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers are scheduled to meet on Sunday, September 27, at 1:00 p.m. ET at Highmark Stadium, with FOX carrying the Week 3 matchup. As of September 21, that kickoff time remains unchanged on both the Bills’ official schedule and the NFL’s schedule.
But when it comes to an NFL game that is still several days away, supporters should understand one important distinction: a scheduled kickoff is not the same thing as a guarantee that circumstances cannot force a late adjustment.
There is no announced delay for Bills–Chargers at this time. Still, if conditions surrounding the stadium, field, security, transportation, broadcasting operations or another unforeseen issue were to interfere with game-day operations, the league could have decisions to make.
And that possibility creates one question Bills and Chargers fans will want answered before September 27:
What happens if 1:00 p.m. is suddenly no longer possible?
Nothing Has Changed — Yet
For now, fans should plan around the original schedule.
Buffalo’s official website lists Chargers at Bills for 1:00 p.m. EDT, while the NFL’s Week 3 schedule shows the same kickoff time. The Chargers’ official game information also has Los Angeles traveling to Buffalo for its first road game of the 2026 regular season.
So there has been no official announcement moving the game.
No cancellation.
No postponement.
And, crucially, no alternative kickoff time has been announced.
That last point matters because fans sometimes see speculation about schedule changes on social media and mistake it for an official NFL decision.
Until the Bills, Chargers or NFL announces something different, 1:00 p.m. ET remains the time that matters.
Why Fans Should Still Watch for Updates
NFL game-day operations involve far more than simply putting two teams on a football field.
Thousands of fans have to reach the stadium. Players, coaches and officials have to arrive safely. Security operations must be ready. Television equipment has to function. The playing surface must satisfy league standards.
If a significant problem develops in any of those areas, officials could be forced to evaluate whether kickoff can proceed as planned.
That does not mean such a problem currently exists for Bills–Chargers.

Before Buffalo’s home opener, the Bills replaced the stadium’s grass because the club determined that the original surface wasn’t meeting its standards. There is currently no “new kickoff time” for Bills vs. Chargers because the game has not been delayed.
If a genuine issue were to emerge before September 27, any revised timing would depend on the nature of the problem and how quickly it could be resolved.

Even without any schedule drama, this game has an interesting setup.
Buffalo enters Week 3 at 2–0 after beating Houston 36–31 and Detroit 41–31. The victory over Detroit was particularly significant because it was the Bills’ first regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium.
Josh Allen produced a spectacular performance in that home opener, accounting for five touchdowns as Buffalo’s offense overwhelmed Detroit.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, is heading in the opposite direction.
The Chargers are 0–2 after losses to Arizona and Las Vegas and will arrive in Buffalo searching for their first victory of the season.
That puts Justin Herbert and the Chargers under immediate pressure against an undefeated Buffalo team.
It also gives Joe Brady’s Bills an opportunity to start the season 3–0.
Bills Mafia Shouldn’t Change Its Plans Right Now
For supporters making travel arrangements, the message is straightforward.
Keep planning for Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
There has been no official time change.
There has been no postponement.
There has been no cancellation.
And there is currently no later restart time for fans to circle on their calendars.
Could circumstances change between now and Sunday?
Of course.
That’s why game-day alerts matter.
But until an official announcement says otherwise, the schedule remains exactly where it has been:
